The museum dedicated to the first German pilot of a motorised
aeroplane, Hans Grade,is situated at the airfield in Borkheide in an IL
18 plane. It was inaugurated in June 1990 and contains a small exhibition
on the biography of the technical designer
and pilot. His first flight, and the first in Germany, was in 1908
with a selfbuilt motorised triplane in Magdeburg. In 1990, the Hans-grade-society
was founded in order to commemorate his success. On 16.11.89 the IL 18 landed
on a 800 m long grass runway in Borkheide. The plane is now the home of
the museum. In addition to the documents about his life and achievements,
there is also a film presentation about the history of aviation including
the landing of the IL 18 on that particular airfield. Once a year, there
is an air show in memory of Hans Grade, the first German motor-pilot. Hans-Grade-museum ![]() Am Flugplatz, 14822 Borkheide Tel. 0049/(0)33845/40210 or 40369 opening times march to Octobers Sat, Sun and public holidays: 14 - 17 h Groups also by arrangements tel. +49 33845/ 41946 |
